"It is possible to capture everything in a single photo – and that’s what most photographers strive to do. Personally, I haven’t been able to do that yet, and realistically I don’t even know if it’s possible, particularly if you’re talking about human elements. It also depends on what the subject is. Are you photographing a single grain of sand, or an entire beach? I do believe that there’s no way to capture every element of a human being in a single photograph. That’s the most challenging thing about photography, and why it’s necessary to seek out and decide which elements you’re trying to convey"

"All of the arts inspire me – paintings, photographs, books, theater, movies, sculpture – and particularly great writing. Someone who is really good at what they do, people who have a passion for something – it doesn’t matter what – those people are incredibly inspiring. People who challenge me are another inspiration. My friends and family and loved ones are probably the most inspiring of all, because everything I do is done to impress them on some level. As much as I like to think that I’m entirely self-motivated in everything I do, the truth is I’m still that little boy trying to impress his parents."

"If you want to do anything well in life you have to stay focused and work hard. I hear a lot of whining and complaining from people, and mostly it’s due to their own laziness. People tell me they want to be a writer and want to know how to go about doing it, yet they’ve never written a single word – not even for themselves. That’s insane! The same holds true for modeling or photography – you have to start somewhere. If you want to be a photographer, start taking pictures! Get a portfolio together, submit your best work to local art shows, post your work on-line – there are so many ways to promote yourself today, but you have to have a body of work to show people."

"It gets better every year. (Practice makes perfect!) Obviously it’s never fun to be rejected – either professionally or personally (and I’ve had much of both). It’s also something you can’t take to heart every time it happens, and you can’t ever let it influence your faith in yourself. I know that’s easier said than done, and I still remember the first official rejection letter I got, so the first few times it definitely stings, but eventually you develop a thick skin, and you’ll need that."
