It's not like that never happens to anyone. Usually because we are so used to our mail routines, we would normally just get everything off our mailbox and just randomly go through the mails from junk mails to those dreaded monthly bills, and most of the time, we don't really look whether that's our mail or not, its more of a habit, ideally, you really need to check whether that's your mail or not as definitely you don't want to open your neighbor's mail. But you see your mail carrier can sometimes make mistake and possibly get mail box confused. In your case, I don't think like it's your fault that you opened your neighbor's box, first of all you're expecting a package, second, it's an accident, you just thought that it was yours, but there's really nothing to be alarmed of. I think you did the right thing, you closed the package and immediately went to your neighbor's door, It's also good that instead of just leaving it on his doorstep, or sneakily returning it back to his mailbox  you manage to really tell him that you thought it was yours. Of course, you both know that you saw the underwear contents. It's an underwear. It's not like its something that you or him should feel awkward on, everyday people receives underwear on their mail box. And somewhere in the world, the post gets mixed up and another person accidentally opens his neighbor's underwear package. You solved the problem, he got his package, its just that what really happened is a little sense of awkwardness. But that's ok, in time, it will go away. Wave at your neighbor the next time you see him out on his yard, or say hi when you bump on him at the local grocery store. The thing is, things happen.
