Patric: "What environmental lessons and practices did your observed from your parents when you were growing up?"
Jerald: "Throughout my elementary school days, I've been taught about the Earth's finite resources and the significance of conserving energy, reducing waste, and recycling. So I was well informed about the consequences that human activity has on our environment. My parents were really good about teaching recycling methods and also enforcing it to be a habit to continue these practices. It became a bi-monthly activity to gather and organize recyclables and submit them to the center for special cash reward. In our neighborhood, we also had containers that allowed us to recycle all types of items, including paper, plastics, and aluminum. My parents are also good at conserving energy. They've reminded me to shut off lights when no one's present in the room, turn off the televisions when it's not being watched, and use the air conditioner and heater sparingly. As a result of this, I've continued to follow these practices. Except now I don't do it for the extra money. I do it for the sake of our planet's well-being."
Patric: "As a model, how can you help in promoting environmental issues and awareness?"
Jerald: "In terms of modeling, I would love to be involved in a campaign directly related to this cause. Whether it's putting my face on a poster, or being a spokesman for a similar organization, I think it's important to be an advocate for sustainable energy and environmental health. Generally, I think it takes initiative of any individual to take part in promoting environmental issues such as this It doesn't take a model to increase awareness and to encourage others to begin practices that benefit our environment."
Patric: "Do you think a single act of a person can make an environmental difference on a global scale?"
Jerald: "An act of a leader, such as one in political position, can make a huge difference in the global environment. But as a general citizen, the activity of a single individual can potentially make a significant difference as well. Every little bit helps. Even if one person isn't in an official leadership position, they can assume that role through leading by example. The practices of an individual can inspire and encourage others to do the same. It only takes one person to initiate the process."
Patric: "Any environmental message for our thousands of daily readers, for our models, photographers and industry professionals?"
Jerald: "Our automobiles make a huge contribution in the pollution of our breathing air. When you get the chance, carpool, take public transportation, walk, or ride a bike. If you have the funds, buy a hybrid. Remember to flip the light switch off when a room is empty. Turn off your electronics when they're not in use. Although I support the conservation of energy, I am also an advocate of conserving our other resources, including water, metals, and forests. Check for sink and toilet leaks. Make sure faucets are shut off all the way before leaving it. Recycle as much paper, plastics, and aluminum as possible. At the market, select brown paper bags or reusable bags instead of plastic ones. Finally, consume less. Recently, I viewed a site about consumerism: Story of Stuff. It really got me thinking about my shopping habits. I became conscious of everything I purchased and threw out. Purchase items that are reusable, recyclable, and natural. Remember, the future state of our world is affected by our consumption. The little things we do in your everyday lives can make a difference. Our very own behaviors and practices can ruin our the environment of future generations. Respect the health of humanity and our Earth."
Patric: "What's your views about FUSE?"
Jerald: "I think FUSE has a great cause. Their missions and goals are for the good of our environment, and ultimately our lives. It puts aside religious differences and supports a common effort to find possible solutions to conserve energy. All faiths have a shared concern to respect the Earth and respect humanity. I found their site to be user-friendly and very informative. They provide several ways in which the general public can be involved in this movement."
